Xavier Pov:

Waking up to the sound of banging against my door has become my new thing , it's my new alarm . Again opening the door I see my mother , "where have you been" she inquires . " I was sleeping" I reply with half eye closed . She told me to join for dinner and left . After splashing water on my face and getting fully awake I go down and see everyone at dinning table. The atmosphere is very tense , mom serves us food and settled down with her own plate . We began eating our food in silence , nobody speaks a single word not even single person brings up the topic of Sam . The whole dinner went by . Me and my grandfather settles down in living room.

Our doorbell rings and grandfather goes to open the door . I can't see whose there at the door , my mom goes and comes back to me .

"It's the police" she says . I run towards the door and see them to talking

The officer says , " So will you walk by yourself or shall I drag you to station ?" .

I reach towards the door and the policeman sees me

He comes forward and extends his hand "I am Mr.Hills , the head of this town's police department and you must be Xavier "

I shake his hand and give him a nod , he looks at us , everyone of us . He then smiles and looks at me "I am taking Mr.William with me to the police station and you must come to , I'll send you the investigation letter , okay ? " He says and again receiving a nod from me . He takes grandfather to the jeep and drives away . None of us know why he took him to the station.

Mom's cries brings me back to the present.

"Why did he take him ? Does he think that Dad killed Sam?" She says in between .

"No Mom it must be something else " I say to assure her.

Around 11 pm the letter comes in for my investigation, we all go to our respective bedroom. Sleep is far away , I don't know what to do .

I text Anne:

Hey , are you sleeping?

Today police came to our house and took my grandfather with him . I can't understand why.

There's no way the police might think that he is the suspect. I don't know what to do and can't think properly.

I am called tomorrow for investigation, received my letter today

I hit send .

It's been 15 minutes but she has not seen it . I lean back to the headboard think about tomorrow. I look at the time it's 1 am now . After few minutes I hear a bing on my phone , it's Anne's message:

Hi, I heard that police took someone from the town , umm is it possible if we meet now .

At the park in 20 minutes.

I send okay and change my clothes, I sneak out from my bedroom and take my bike . I reach at park and see that Anne is already standing there.

"Hey" I say , she got scared a little from my sudden appearance.

"Hi" she replies in a small tone .

She continues,"can we walk because the park in closed" , I nod at the question .

We start walking , after few minutes we reach at the old theatre , Anne looks at me and says , " Are you scared for tomorrow? " I look at her and nod again.

She looks more scared now .

" Do you think they will call me too ? I couldn't sleep today , I was thinking about it the whole time "

She continues.

"Don't worry, I am scared mostly nervous but it's okay I haven't done anything wrong so they can't do anything more than just an investigation and yes they will call you as well but again it's just investigation, tell the truth and they will let you go"

I assure her.

She nods and comes near me , "Thank you" she says and looks at me . I give her a smile and tuck her loose hair behind her ears . We stand there for awhile .

And out of nowhere, we are flashed by a light and then a man appears. He looks at us , his eyes grazing at Anne for a little long , Anne hids behind me . The man moves forward towards us. He looks at Anne "How about you leave her and go so we can can have some fun? Boss won't mind you know that" he says the last statement looking at Anne . She shakes her head .

"How about you leave and nobody gets hurt?" I go and stand in front of him . His eyes now looking into mine . He laughs and starts to move towards Anne . She walks backwards before he could reach her I take him down and hold him on the ground. He smells like alcohol.

"Listen , get the fuck out of here or else you won't see the next day , the next sunrise" I look deadpan into his eyes , he is weak right now and he knows it . I stand up and drag him away from us , I shove him towards the road , he gives a last look at us and then runs away .

I go back to Anne , I hold her hand and we move towards our house . She is walking and I am just following her lead . After 15 minutes we reach at a old house maybe it's her orphanage.

"You stay here?" I ask her

My voice breaks her trance , she nods

She looks at me for few seconds and ask " Will you always protect? Will you protect me against the world world " she ask looking at me , her eyes searching the assurance, the safety in my eyes .

I look at her , take her in my embrace and utter ,

"Always , it's not you against the world anymore but us against the whole damn world " .

We stay in each other's embrace for a while before parting our ways , she gets in the house and waves back at me before closing the door.

I walk back to the park and take my bike going straight to my house . I sneak back and change into something comfortable. I lay down and start to think about tomorrow. What will they ask me ? Maybe our fight ? What if they call Anne ? Everything possibilities is going on my mind .

Then I think about Anne and my promise to protect her . I know that I'll never break this promise. In this short time Anne has became a big part of my life and I can't bear losing her.

With all the things in my mind I drift to sleep .
